Mojo Monday at Flying Unicorn

As you probably know by now, every Monday at Flying Unicorn we host Mojo Monday.  If you don't know about it, let me tell you that it is a LOT of fun!  Alda furnishes a sketch for you to use and one of the creative team makes a layout for inspiration.  In addition, it's a challenge and you have one week to participate!  Best news of all... you can win!  Prizes are always fun!!

So this Monday, it was my turn to use the sketch.  What great timing!  I had just received my GORGEOUS new Prima Garden Fable in the mail! (It's in the Flying Unicorn Store) So, this is what I came up with...

I'm loving the beautiful colors that are in this collection.  They are so fun to work with!   So many beautiful parts and pieces, too!

I layered tags, chipboard and pearl flourishes on top of some stenciling that I did with modeling paste.  With these soft beautiful colors, I couldn't resist adding a few sprinkles of glitter to the paste while it was wet.

Flowers, flowers, flowers!  There are so many beautiful ones to chose from with all the Prima collections.  I used a mixture of solids, prints and sizes to build my flower clusters.

If you look closely, you will see that I added some tiny green sequins to finish off the page.  So easy to do!  Just use a touch of glossy accents and sprinkle them on!

So, want to see the sketch and play along?  Here is your link!  Mojo Monday Challenge Hope to see you there!

It's Reveal Time at Flying Unicorn!

It's that time again!!  Time for the kit releases at Flying Unicorn!
As always, there are lots of great things to play with!  This month has stencils, stamps, gorgeous flowers, bling.... mixed media like you can't believe... and more!!
With all the different choices, there are so many ways to create with them.  Sometimes I wonder if we really all got the same kit.  :)

This is the first page that I'm going to share this month.  I chose some of the soft colors that are included and went from there.

Take a closer look at the little scalloped border pieces.  They are perfect to add some little silver touches to your design.  They also look great with the little bling buckles that are in the kit.

Layers of chipboard, watercolor pieces, and the stamps made a great way to build a background to showcase the photo and the gorgeous Prima flowers.

Tip: Instead of stamping directly onto my page, I stamped on transparency to have some more shine and to allow me to play with the placement. This can also be a great way to play with stamps if you are new to them or even a bit nervous about stamping directly onto your pages or project.

Of course, tucking in some buttons and my new glass beads is an easy way to add a bit more interest into my flower clusters.

Now... check out these kits!!

Flying Unicorn -More for May!

This is another layout that I made using the Flying Unicorn May Kits plus some extras from the Flying Unicorn Store, too!

For this one, I chose to focus on the white and silver elements that were in the kits.  The background paper has a touch of blue that I liked to add the tiniest bit of contrast to make the whites stand out perfectly.

I chose a black and white photo to go with this page to further the monochromatic look.  I also pulled out some of my OLD punched ribbon.  It seemed like a great fit for the look I was going for.

The wood title was inked to be white.  I added some silver to each of the resin pieces which is a bit hard to see in the photos.  The Petaloo flowers were added to pull some more bling into my page.

I really LOVE both of the stencils that were included in the kits this month!  I used gel medium with silver micro beads for the background of this one.

Don't forget to go to Flying Unicorn to see what the design team has done!  And... Don't forget to get your kits each month!  They go fast!

Off the Page with Flying Unicorn

The Off the Page for Flying Unicorn's May Kit was a paper mache book box.  It is the perfect size to store some treasures!  I really experimented with this one.  I haven't used mica flakes before and there were some beautiful ones in the kits.  This is what I came up with.

I used lost of mists, glitter, doilies and my favorite Hug Snug ribbon to build the base to set these gorgeous Prima Flowers and Feathers on top of.  The feathers and some of the adornments were included in the kits.  I added some of my own butterflies and flowers, too.

I really ended up loving the warm colors that I chose.  I also have been hoarding those butterflies and the feather flowers from Prima.  They ended up matching perfectly with kit supplies that I included on this project.

You will love what the rest of the team did with this little box, so be sure to take a peek at the gallery at Flying Unicorn!

CSI-Color Stories Inspiration

Flying Unicorn is sponsoring CSI this month!  Many of us on the Flying Unicorn Creative team will be participating in the Challenges.  I made this page based on the Case File CC-5.

Here is the case file that I worked from.

As you can see, there are many options to work from.  To crack the case, you must use the colors that are provided.  For me, these colors are so beautiful and my stash is full of them!  I used lots of Prima Flowers and many things from the Prima Butterfly collection.

I used a stencil with gel medium colored with green to add the bricks.  I then added a bit of gesso and some ink to give them more coloring.

I also added some white cardstock using on of my new punches.  Tip:  Try gluing two punches together with a glue stick to make your small pieces stiff.  Shape while they are still damp.

More bits and pieces completed the look.  I'm loving glass beads, so I had to add some here.

Be sure to go by CSI to participate in the challenge!  You will find lots of inspiration there from the Flying Unicorn team, as well as, the CSI team and more!

Canvas Pedestal Frame with Video Tutorial

Hi everyone!  If you follow my blog, you might have seen this on my Prima post.  Today, I'm sharing it in a post with several close-ups.  I had a lot of fun with this one.  You will see that I also created a video tutorial for it.  It's embedded below, so it is easy to watch if you would like to!

Here is the video!

I love the trend of turning a canvas over and using the back side.  It worked perfectly to add the ring holder to the inside to hold lots of photos.

In this photo, you can see several details including the ribbon technique that is in the video.  You can also see some of the canvas pieces.

This is probably my favorite part of the project.  The glass drawer pull is actually an antique that I got when my mother in law moved out of her home.  It is special to me, so I wanted to include it on a project that I love.  Having said that, there are so many beautiful drawer pulls in local hobby shops.  You are sure to be able to find one you love.

This is the backside detail.    I wanted this to be something that I could set anywhere, so just in case the back could be seen, it needed to be finished, too.

And the last one so you can really see the dimension of the finished project.  I have only added 3 photos for my blog, but you can see that this will hold several photos easily.
