Burlap Canvas

Each month, I can't wait to open the Flying Unicorn kits to see what is included.  Especially fun is seeing what the Off the Page item is every month.  They are never the same and they are always interesting.  I thought the bicycle this month was so pretty and fun!  Now, I do have to admit that I was a bit concerned about coming up with an idea to use it, though.  Because of the dimension, I wasn't sure how it would lay on a canvas, so I decided to use the back of the canvas instead.  Instant shadow box!

I started out by white washing the wooden frame a bit, adding cream colored acrylic paint, modeling paste and ink to 'rough' my burlap canvas up a bit.

Then, I added the bicycle.  I used some cream colored acrylic paint to make the bicycle fit with the more monochromatic look that I was going for.

Next up, start embellishing!

I used canvas flowers and burlap leaves that I inked to make them go with the overall look of the canvas background.  The chipboard was washed with a thin coat of cream colored acrylic paint and then inked.

The seam tape was sprayed with water, a dipped in a bit of paint and glued under the flowers and inside of the frame.

Although it took me a bit to come up with my idea, this ended up being one of my favorite Off the Page projects ever!

Be sure to stop by Flying Unicorn to check out what the rest of the team did with this piece.  It's amazing how many different ideas that we all came up with!

March Flying Unicorn Layout

I think I could scrap for a week with this Flying Unicorn kit!  I really love these colors and how bright and beautiful they are!  I also love the dark grey colors that ground the yellows.  It's just perfect!  Not to mention, it's almost spring and these colors are perfect for that, too!

The Authentique papers have terrific patterns!  I think plaids are terrific and I love the one in this collection!  Since I'm craving spring, I had to add a few daisies to this page!

More bits and pieces, flowers and stickers work so well to add details.

Finally, you can't forget the adorable little diecut shapes that are included in this collection.  I think Banners are a great thing to tuck here and there under photos and papers.

Be sure to check out Flying Unicorn for all the details on ordering kits!  Don't forget to watch for pre-orders!  You don't EVER want to miss one of these kits!

Mojo Monday at Flying Unicorn

It's my turn to provide some inspiration for Mojo Monday at Flying Unicorn

If you follow along, you know that Alda, the owner of Flying Unicorn, provides a beautiful sketch each Monday to help get your mojo going!  The sketches are always beautiful and little pieces of art themselves.  And...

You can play along for a chance to win a prize from Flying Unicorn!!

This is the layout that I made using the sketch for my inspiration.

I used lots of Prima supplies from my stash for this one!  I LOVE hounds tooth prints, so I couldn't resist pulling this paper out of the pile to start with!

I added some Dusty Attic Music Notes Chipboard and a Leaky Shed Frame chipboard to build from.

I used one of my all time favorite masks for this layout, too!  It is the Prima Marketing Damask pattern.

I finished it off with lots of Prima flowers, bling and other embellishments and a few stitched circles!

Don't forget to check out the sketch and play along this week!  I would love to see what you come up with!

More Flying Unicorn February Kit

I seriously loved the February Kits from Flying Unicorn!
This kit was so awesome!  I love when the papers lend themselves to being cut up and re-arranged or cut up and used for design elements!  These beautiful papers in the kit this month were perfect for that!

Here is another layout that I made using the kits.

The squares were cut from one of the papers.  I just distressed the edges and randomly chose squares to add foam to for dimensional interest.

Of course, there were beautiful florals, adornments and other pieces included.  I painted my adornments for this layout to make them blend better with my design.

I also couldn't resist adding some sweet polka dot ribbons to go with the sweet baby photo!

Be sure to check out the kits at Flying Unicorn!  You don't want to miss any of them!
